Music: Maggie Fu's self-titled album

I didn't realize this until Maggie signed with BMA (same record label as Jade) but she's awfully similar to Jade. Both can sing, can write songs, and are not the prettiest singers around. So why Jade became an instant hit and Maggie is still looking to stablize her career? The only thing I can say is luck.
What Maggie has that Jade doesn't have though is flexibility, as shown in this album. Track 1 "Spinning" has the making of another major hit in karaoke. It's simply a pleasure to listen to Maggie singing that song. Track 2 "Hearty soup" has that "neighbourhood girl" feel that Jade can't duplicate.

You'll find a bit of everything among the rest of the tracks. Track 4 "Time span of a cigarette" is another ballad with potential. Track 3 "Garbage can", 6 "If this is considered dating" and 10 "Learn a lesson" are lighter, upbeat songs that brings coolness during these hot, summer days. And just for good measure, the CD also includes 2 of Maggie's previous hits: "Get rid of your stomach" (track 11) and "Hopelessness" (track 12).

It's hard not to cheer for the underdogs. This is one of the better female canto-pop albums this year.
